Narrator: The Government of Canada is undergoing a digital transformation that's modernizing the public service and how we work as public servants.  But this transformation isn't just about information technology and digitizing what we do. It's about much more. And it affects us all. It's about changing the way we plan and deliver programs and services to meet people's growing needs and wants.

People living in Canada want their access to be simple, easy to understand and available in accessible formats, including online. It's also about changing our day-to-day thinking and acting as public servants, moving away from "this is how we've always done things" towards a flexible growth mindset enabled by the digital age.

There are countless ways we can do this and here are four tips to get you started:

  1. Design with clients in mind. Work not just for them, but with them on solutions from the outset, rather than assume we know what they need.
  2. Iterate and improve frequently. Engage in tests with clients early and often. This creates an opportunity to evolve a solution in a more agile way and establishes a culture and expectations to make smaller mistakes and learn from them.
  3. As a leader, create the conditions for success. Empower your teams and make your organization a safe space to learn and adopt behaviours aligned with the Government of Canada Digital Standards. Reconsider if governance processes and your organizational culture is helping or preventing agility and innovation.
  4. Be curious and open to change. Remember: "digital" isn't just for techies. It's basically a modern, more effective way of working as public servants.
